Doug stabs Betty

We finally have a date for the premiere of this hilarious film from the Los Angeles-based production company Magic Elevator. It will be Sunday, February 17 at the New Beverly Cinema in L.A. The theater opened in the 1920s as a vaudeville theater and before becoming a movie theater in 1978, it became a nightclub and then a theater. Its fate would have been to close in 2007 had it not been for Quentin Tarantino’s purchase of the theater so he could personally program his own films and others of interest to him.

In Doug stabs Betty, it is directed by Jeff Solema and Berenika Bailey, who also plays the character of an escort. The role of Betty is played by Calico Cooper, singer and actress, daughter of the famous rocker, Alice Cooper.

The selection process for the music composition was conducted online. More than 300 composers from all over the world submitted their applications. We were given 10 minutes of film to propose a demo. The scene needed music that would highlight the comic character and underline each of the comic situations that were happening. Fortunately I was selected from all the candidates. The music for this feature film had to be composed and produced within a week. Every composer knows that a comedy needs almost more work than other genres, since the scenes must be accompanied by continuous instrumental effects and constant changes of rhythm and orchestration, very fragmented and at the same time very concise. Finally all the problems were solved, including the Los Angeles-Madrid time difference.

The film will be released on DVD and made available for sale on internet sites such as Amazon. In March of this year it will be presented at the Hong Kong Film Market along with other films from the production company.
